Big Lagoon State Recreation Area

The sandy beaches and salt marshes of Big Lagoon State Recreation Area provide important habitats for birds and animals. Cardinals, towhees, brown thrashers and nuthatches are common in the uplands, while great blue herons and many other water birds are frequently seen near Big Lagoon and the parks lake marshes. An observation tower at the east beach area gives visitors a panoramic view of Big Lagoon and Gulf Island National Seashore across the Intercoastal Waterway.
Swimming, fishing, boating, camping, picnicking and nature study will keep everyone active on the shores of the Intercoastal Waterway and Big Lagoon. There is a large pavillion and meeting room for rental.
Big Lagoon State Recreational Area is located on C.R. 292A, approximately 10 miles southwest on Pensacola.
